Sentral: Pegawai bomba sampaikan khutbah

Red tagged ! -not so lah

Update May 5th 2008:

1) A friend from Kajang confirm that Mydin kajang doesn not have the red tag as of Friday 4th.
2) My own encounter at MyMydin near my house ...
Last night I did my grocery at MyMydin near my house. Tawaf 2,3 kali
MyMydin tapi tak de satu pun red tag. At the payment counter I asked
the cashier - apasal tak de red tag.
His answer was quite logical ...
Cashier Boy : Alaa Kak, tu semua rethoric je.
Me : Rethoric tu apa ?
Cashier Boy : Macam gimmik je. Kalau betul nak boikot, taukey tu ntar
je lah terus barangan balik kat supplier.
Me : Betul gak tu.
Cashier Boy : Kak, company saya ni bukan company kecik. Kalau dia nak
buat boleh aja. Saya dah lama kerja bidang ni Kak.
Me : Pandai lah awak ni.

Hmmm ... a view from inside ...

Thumbs up to Mydin !
I guess we all need to rush to Mydin for a quick lesson on what brand got the "Red" tag.

On a lighter note : i hope buah durian belanda will not be "red" tagged.

Mydin stores mark protest against anti-Islam film
By MANJIT KAUR
SUBANG JAYA: All Mydin stores nationwide have placed red labels on products from the Netherlands as a sign of protest over the release of the controversial anti-Islam film Fitna.

Mydin Mohamed Holdings Bhd managing director Datuk Ameer Ali Mydin said they have put up notices in their two hypermarkets and 24 emporiums nationwide as a step to urge shoppers not to purchase the products.

Dutch legislator Geert Wilders released the 15-minute film on the Internet on Thursday.

Red sticker day: Shahrir on a tour of Mydin Hypermarket in USJ, Subang Jaya, after he launched “Product Malaysia Citarasa Kita” promotion Monday. Inset — the notice to inform customers which products are from the Netherlands.

“We have put up red labels with the words ‘Product from the Netherlands’ on the shelves and posters have been pasted around the mall and cashier counters to urge shoppers not to buy the products.

“This will give customers a choice to shop for other products, especially local products.

“One need not be a Muslim to refrain from purchasing the products, as nobody has the right to condemn any religion – it is time to show how united we are.

“Anyway, there are many other products to choose from, and people need not worry,” Ameer said in his speech before Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Shahrir Abdul Samad launched the Product Malaysia Citarasa Kita promotion at the Mydin Hypermarket in USJ here yesterday.

He added that they were, however, unable to remove the products from the shelves as consumers had the right to make their own choice.

Shahrir commended Mydin and Ameer for speaking up and placing the labels to discourage people from purchasing products from the Netherlands.

He said usually businessmen preferred to stay neutral when it came to such issues.

“But I am surprised with the speech by Ameer and the willingness of Mydin to place the labels to show their dissatisfaction over Wilders’ act.

“We are not angry with the Netherlands Government but with Wilders’ act, which has created anger among the Muslims,” he said, adding that there was no official boycott of Dutch products.

Shahrir said even companies in the Netherlands had said that they would take legal action against Wilders if their businesses were affected.

“And since their businesses are now affected, I hope legal action will be taken,” he added.

“With the move, consumers will have a choice of products that can compete with foreign products,” he added.

And the results are ...

shocking but not lah unimaginable.

Our hometown Trg state is still in the dark blue, while our residence town SA is now in multicolour. This change of baton was what Oghang Ghanu experience 2 terms ago. It's now happening in other states. Will history repeat itself ? Will changes in other states are to stay ?
We'll see ...

At at the federal level, no more 2/3 majority. So both sides better behave and perform ... else ... mokcik sendiri masuk calon next round :)
At the federal level, my interest will be to know who's the Transport and Women and Education Minister.
Transport - because it has direct impact to my current employment.
Women - because I am a women.
Education - because I got 4 schooling age kids.

In one or two week time, when the "excitement" is over, things will get back to normal. Time to deliver the promises and sayings. Now Malaysian knows where the power is --- at the ballot box.

Ohhh someone kindly clean up the banners around our homes, with the rains pouring the sight is getting uglier by the day.

In the mean time, I do have my upmost respect to these 2 guys going out .... Kak Ijat & Dr Koh. Dr Koh is such a good leader - humble in victory, gracious in loss.

Koh offers to step down

By CHRISTINA CHIN

Gerakan Acting President Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon meets Chief Minister designate Lim Guan Eng

PENANG: Acting Gerakan president Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon has taken full responsibility for the party’s poor showing in the general election and offered to step down.

“We did not expect such a big swing of votes in favour of the Opposition. The party’s central committee will conduct a post-mortem and meet to determine my future as well as the party’s,” said the outgoing chief minister.

Dr Koh said he visited Yang di-Pertua Negri Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas at Seri Mutiara yesterday to officially inform him of the general election results.

Perfect gentleman: Dr Koh welcoming Lim to his office in Penang Sunday.
“I want to urge the people to give their full support to the leaders they have chosen. Give your new leaders a chance to perform. This is also what I told civil servants.

“We may have different opinions on policies but I must accept the views of the people,” he said.

On Gerakan playing an effective opposition role in the DAP-led government, Dr Koh replied: “I am not sure how that is possible because we don’t even have one representative in the state assembly.”

He added that his position as Penang Development Corporation and Penang Water Supply Corporation chairman would be decided by the new government.

“I am now only the caretaker chief minister,” he said after receiving a courtesy call from incoming chief minister and DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng and about 20 party officials yesterday.

Commenting on the call by former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to step down, Dr Koh said Abdullah had said that he would continue leading the country.

“As far as Gerakan is concerned, it is still part of the Barisan coalition,” he said.

Addressing the media, Lim thanked Dr Koh for “welcoming” the party into his office.

“I appreciate and thank him for his willingness to accept the people’s decision and we welcome his views. The new administration is one for all Penangites, not just one particular party,” he said.

Lim and the DAP officials later paid a courtesy call on the governor.

The swearing-in ceremony will be held at Seri Mutiara at 5pm tomorrow.

Hours after conceding defeat to the Opposition, Dr Koh returned to his 28th-floor office in Komtar to pack his belongings.

At 2.30am yesterday, Dr Koh left his office carrying a pillow, some documents and personal items.

Speaking to the press briefly before leaving the tower office, Dr Koh said he was taking home the pillow which he used to sleep on when he was tired at work.

“The other state executive members will be coming in to clear their offices as well,” he said.

Parl1men 36 - KTrg

In the printed version of Harian Metro, there's a one page interview on Nenek Maimun. Her answers sound very genuine and thoughtful.
Will she make it on March 8th - btw ... she's contesting in my parliamentary seat Kuala Terengganu !
At least now I've 3 candidates to choose from and frankly, she's not the "last" in my list.

Hasrat nenek tercapai

Aug 17th - PM says apology is OK but the law prevail. Let the law take it's own course. In the mean time, let us ponder why the reason for the "voices" and make this country a more "balanced" country ... shall we ?
Aug 16th - "Cabinet" by means of one of the minister - reject the Rapper's apology

The case of "Rude" Rapper should be close. His apology should be accepted.
It's an expensive lesson for him, and others, but I do not feel he deserve more "punishment".

Student rapper apologises

PETALING JAYA: Student Wee Meng Chee, 24, who caused a furore here with his Negaraku rap video clip on YouTube, has apologised for the parody and will remove the video clip from his blog.

“It has taught me a lesson about the spirit of nationalism and race relations. As a Malaysian, I did not intend to shame the country or ridicule any religion.

Accept it: Chua (left) and Wee holding a press conference in Putrajaya yesterday after talking to Meng Chee about his rap video clip. — Bernama
“To end the controversy, I will remove the video clip from my blog and I hope other bloggers will stop distributing the video clip,” said the mass communications student at Ming Chuan University in Taiwan.

Meng Chee said he also did not have any intention of creating anti-government sentiments or fan racism by writing the song as he was loyal to the King and the country where he was raised, gained knowledge and given the freedom to develop his talent.

He said he wanted to return and contribute to the country.

“I am proud to be a Malaysian and my loyalty to my country has not wavered even though I’m now studying in Taiwan,” he said.

Meng Chee, from Muar, posted a six-minute video of a Mandarin rap number using the Negaraku as background and promptly came under fire for mocking the national anthem and making statements many found offensive.

MCA vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek spoke to him yesterday on the phone for about 30 minutes in the presence of the boy’s father Wee Ann Hee.

“Meng Chee thought that using Negaraku (as background) was apt as it was the 50th anniversary of our independence,” he told reporters in Putrajaya, adding that Meng Chee was naive and did not realise it was a mistake at that time.

Dr Chua, who is also Johor MCA chairman, said the MCA had accepted his apology and urged all Malaysians to accept Meng Chee’s apology in good faith too.

He added that Meng Chee had already taken out his video from the Internet but other people had downloaded it and sent it out again.

“If we come down hard on every young man, there is no room for any creativity and innovativeness in this country.

“There should be room for dissent but this dissent must be within the confines of the country’s Constitution.

“He is a creative and naive young man who has not even finished his tertiary education; we cannot pass harsh judgements; he asked for forgiveness and we should be open-hearted,” he said.

The senior Wee, 47, who is a former singer and a judge in singing competitions, expressed his gratitude to MCA for addressing the issue.

Information Minister Datuk Zainuddin Maidin urged Malaysians to accept Meng Chee’s apology.

“He is still young. We should not be too hard on him but he should learn from this, particularly in handling sensitive issues,” he said, commending MCA on the way the party handled the issue.

Zainuddin hoped the people would not continue to harp on the matter as Meng Chee had already apologised.
